Strategy — How to Actually Win 2048
- Pick a corner and commit. Keep your biggest tile pinned in one corner (most players use bottom-left or bottom-right) and never move it out. Build your big numbers along that edge.
- Use mostly two directions. If your anchor is bottom-right, slide down and right almost exclusively, and only slide left or up when you have no other option. This keeps your big tiles locked in place.
- Build a chain. Try to keep your bottom row in descending order (e.g. 256, 128, 64, 32) so each tile can merge up the line.
- Never swipe up if your anchor is on the bottom — it scatters your big tiles and is the #1 way players lose.
- Keep the board empty. The more merges you make per move, the fewer new tiles clutter the grid. A near-full board with no merges available is game over.
