About Julia Was Alone (Chapter 2)

Julia Was Alone (Chapter 2) is the second chapter of A. V. Dossow's retro horror series about a girl left home by herself on a very bad night. It is set in the 1980s, drawn in a deliberately limited color palette, and it continues Julia's story from the first chapter: a murderer has escaped from a psychiatric institution, and Julia is alone in the house while he is somewhere out in the dark.

This time, Julia's mother has to step out to pick up a few essentials, and before she goes she leaves one very specific instruction. Stay out of the attic, and if the door is unlocked, lock it. It is exactly the kind of rule that becomes impossible to ignore. What is up there, and whether Julia will finally learn the truth, is the question the whole chapter hangs on.

Chapter 2 runs about 30 minutes, adds cutscenes and several different death animations, and updates some of the sprites and images from Chapter 1. The first chapter is bundled in as well, so you can replay it or skip straight ahead. You can play Julia Was Alone (Chapter 2) online here for free, in your browser.

What Makes Julia Was Alone (Chapter 2) Scary

Julia Was Alone (Chapter 2) runs on a simple, primal fear: being young and home alone when you know something dangerous is loose outside. The 1980s setting strips away modern safety nets. There is no phone in your pocket and no quick way to call for help, just an empty house, an attic door you were told to keep shut, and whatever sounds the night decides to make.

The retro presentation makes it more unsettling rather than less. A limited palette and small sprites leave plenty to the imagination, while the character portraits give Julia real personality, so you care about what happens to her. Different death animations mean mistakes are shown rather than just implied. Contains violence and on-screen death scenes.
