About Serum Run

Serum Run is a text-based survival trek in the spirit of The Oregon Trail. A remote town in the Arctic faces a diphtheria epidemic, and you and your party of skilled mushers are the only ones who can get the antitoxin to them. Getting there depends on the decisions you make along the way.

It's loosely inspired by the 1925 serum run to Nome. The story moves through written choices and pixel-art scenes, so you read, weigh your options and keep the party moving.

You can play Serum Run online in a browser tab. It's a short game, a few minutes at a stretch, and the story is the main reason to come back.

How to Play Serum Run

  • Click inside the game window first, then follow the on-screen choices.
  • Read each scene carefully before you decide.
  • Make choices that keep your party of mushers moving toward the town.
  • Think about the party as a whole, and weigh each choice against the stretch of trail ahead.
  • Get the serum to the town before it's too late.

What to Expect in Serum Run

Expect a reading-heavy game with a lot of tension. The choices matter, and the story moves forward on your decisions. If you have ever played a management or trail game, the rhythm will feel familiar.

It started as a Ludum Dare entry, made in 48 hours around the theme of delivery, and it grew after the jam. An update added music, bug fixes, small UI improvements and some extra story.

The soundtrack is by Kevin MacLeod, credited in the game. Serum Run free in the browser is a good pick for fans of text adventures and survival games who like a story with real history behind it.

Tips for Serum Run

  • Read every scene to the end before you choose.
  • Do not rush. A bad decision can be hard to undo.
  • Think about the party as a whole, and weigh each choice against what comes next.
  • Play it again with different choices to see where the story can go.
  • Turn your sound on. The music helps set the mood.

FAQ

Is Serum Run free?

It's free. Serum Run loads right here in your browser, so there's nothing to download.

How do you play Serum Run?

Click inside the game window and follow the on-screen choices. It's a text-based game, so you read each scene and decide what your party should do next. Keep your mushers moving all the way to the town.

What is the goal of Serum Run?

Get the antitoxin serum to a remote Arctic town facing a diphtheria epidemic. You lead a party of skilled mushers across a harsh landscape, and your decisions decide whether the medicine arrives in time, so every scene counts.

Is Serum Run based on a true story?

It's loosely inspired by one. The 1925 serum run to Nome was a real race to carry medicine to a remote town. The game uses that idea as a starting point, then tells its own story in the style of The Oregon Trail.

Who made Serum Run?

Serum Run is by Avery Hiebert. It was first released on itch.io, and this page plays that same build.

Can I play Serum Run on a Chromebook or phone?

A Chromebook or laptop works well, because you click through text choices with a mouse or trackpad. A phone may work in a browser too, though a bigger screen makes the writing much easier to read.

Is Serum Run unblocked at school?

Try it and see. Serum Run unblocked loads in the browser with nothing to install, but each school sets its own filters.

How long did Serum Run take to make?

It was made in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 53 jam, where the theme was delivery. A post-jam update added music, bug fixes, small interface improvements and some additional story, so what you play is a little more polished.
