About Dragonsweeper

Dragonsweeper is Minesweeper with a roguelike twist and a bestiary you need to read. You study a grid of clues and work out what's hiding where, only the threats are monsters.

It's a puzzle that rewards observation. The in-game monster guide is called the monsternomicon, and the advice is to read it before you start guessing.

You can play Dragonsweeper online in this tab, and it's Dragonsweeper free to play, with no download and no account.

How to Play Dragonsweeper

  • Open the monsternomicon first and look over the monsters.
  • Click inside the game window, then click a square to reveal it, as in Minesweeper.
  • Read the clue it shows and work out which neighbors are safe.
  • Check the guide when a monster surprises you.
  • Clear the board by deduction, not by guessing.

What to Expect in Dragonsweeper

If you've played Minesweeper you know the rhythm: a safe opening, a number that points one way, then slow expansion. Dragonsweeper keeps that logic and adds creatures, so you have to read and remember instead of only counting.

As a roguelike, expect to start fresh after a bad run, and expect each attempt to teach you something about the monsters. It's a compact puzzle with no story, and the pull is the deduction itself.

Tips for Dragonsweeper

  • Read the monsternomicon before your first real move, then go back to it when something surprises you.
  • Start where the clues give you the most certainty.
  • Do not click on a guess when a careful look can give you a sure answer.
  • Keep track of which monsters you have already met, because remembering them saves clicks.
  • After a bad run, take the lesson and start again.

You can find the original on the Dragonsweeper page on itch.io.

FAQ

Is Dragonsweeper free?

Yes, Dragonsweeper costs nothing. It runs on this page, so you can start right away.

How do you play Dragonsweeper?

It's a Minesweeper-style puzzle. You reveal squares and use the clues to work out where the monsters are hiding. Read the monsternomicon, the in-game monster guide, first. Click inside the game window and use the mouse to start revealing squares.

What is the goal in Dragonsweeper?

Clear the board by working out where the monsters sit, using the clues just as you would in Minesweeper. The game rewards observation, and the monsternomicon is how you understand what you're looking at, so check it whenever a new creature shows up.

Who made Dragonsweeper?

Dragonsweeper was made by Daniel Benmergui. We embed the original itch.io build, and there's a link back to it on this page.

What is the monsternomicon in Dragonsweeper?

The monsternomicon is the in-game monster guide, and you're meant to read it. Because the clues on the board involve the monsters, the guide is how you make sense of what you see. Check it often, especially when you meet a creature for the first time.

Can I play Dragonsweeper on a Chromebook or phone?

It runs in a browser and you play by clicking squares, so a Chromebook or laptop with a mouse or trackpad works well. A touchscreen may suit a puzzle like this too, so try it on your phone and see how it feels.

Is Dragonsweeper unblocked at school?

Try it and see. Dragonsweeper unblocked loads in the browser with nothing to install, but each school sets its own filters.

Is Dragonsweeper like regular Minesweeper?

Yes at heart. Revealing squares and reading clues carries over from Minesweeper, and the game is also a roguelike. The big change is the monsters, and you learn how they behave from the in-game guide, the monsternomicon.
