About Petal Quest

Petal Quest is a short top-down adventure for PICO-8, the tiny retro console, built around discovery and light puzzles. You wander, look around and work things out as you go. It's the kind of small adventure you can finish in one calm sitting.

The look is classic PICO-8: small sprites and a limited palette. A dog and a rabbit are among the sprites, and the soundtrack is original. It's the work of one person, who wrote the music and made the game.

You can play Petal Quest online here with nothing to install, and Petal Quest free means no account either. It works with a keyboard or a gamepad, so you can sit back and use whichever you like.

How to Play Petal Quest

  • Click inside the game window so it takes your input.
  • Move with the arrow keys.
  • Use X and C for actions.
  • Explore the map and look for things worth investigating.
  • A gamepad works too, if you have one connected.

What to Expect in Petal Quest

It's a gentle game. There's no pressure, no timer and nothing that wants you to rush. You explore, you notice something odd, you work out what to do about it, and the puzzles are light enough that you rarely stay stuck for long.

The PICO-8 style gives it a handmade, storybook feel. Small, clear graphics make it easy to read what's on screen, and the music sets a warm, quiet tone. It's a pleasant, short trip rather than a challenge.

Tips for Petal Quest

  • Walk around everything. Discovery is the point.
  • Try both action buttons, X and C, when you meet something new.
  • Plug in a gamepad if you have one. It plays well that way.
  • Do not rush. Short games are best at a slow walk.
  • Turn the sound on to hear the music.

Who Made Petal Quest

Petal Quest was made by Noel Cody and released on itch.io. It was made for PICO-8 by Noel Cody, who wrote the game and the music. Some sound effects come from the PICO-8 SFX pack. FunClicker embeds the creator's own version so you can play it here without downloading anything. We did not make the game, and the credit for its design, code, and art belongs to its creator. You can find the original on the Petal Quest page on itch.io.

FAQ

Is Petal Quest free?

It's free. Petal Quest loads right here in your browser, so there's nothing to download.

How do you play Petal Quest?

Move with the arrow keys and use X and C for actions. A gamepad works too. Click inside the game window first so it takes your input. That's the whole control scheme, so you can get playing straight away.

What is the goal in Petal Quest?

Explore the world, discover what's in it and solve the light puzzles you find. It's an adventure about wandering and noticing things, so there's no score to chase.

How long is Petal Quest?

It's short by design, so a single sitting is enough to see it. Wander slowly and check every corner, and you'll get more from it than by rushing through.

Who made Petal Quest?

That's Noel Cody. Petal Quest came out on itch.io, and we link back to it from this page.

Can I play Petal Quest on a Chromebook or phone?

A keyboard is the best fit, since you move with the arrow keys and use X and C. A laptop or Chromebook works well. A phone has no touch controls here, so it's a poor choice without a gamepad.

Is Petal Quest unblocked at school?

If your school's filter allows FunClicker, Petal Quest unblocked runs right in the tab. Filters differ from one network to the next, so it's worth a quick try.

Does Petal Quest support a gamepad?

Yes. Petal Quest works with a gamepad as well as the keyboard. If you have a controller connected, you can use it instead of the arrow keys and the X and C buttons.
