About Tofu Tales
Tofu Tales is two games in one. The first is an endless runner where truck-kun is chasing you, determined to send you off to another world. The second picks up on the other side: you've landed somewhere unknown, and now you grow a village in idle mode.
The runner has three stages, so the scenery changes while you try to stay ahead of the truck. The idle side takes over once you've arrived, and you build up your village at your own pace. Both halves share a joke about a very familiar story shape.
A session runs about half an hour, and you can switch between the modes when you like. You can play Tofu Tales online here with nothing to install, and Tofu Tales free covers both. This endless runner game doubles as a tiny incremental one.
How to Play Tofu Tales
- Pick the runner or the idle mode from the start screen.
- In the runner, click inside the game window first, then try the keyboard or mouse. Stay ahead of truck-kun for as long as you can across the three stages.
- In the idle mode, build up your village in the new world.
- Swap between the two whenever you feel like a change.
- Check back on your village after each run.
What to Expect in Tofu Tales
The joke is a good one. A truck wants to ship you to another world, and the runner has you running from it, while the idle mode shows you what happens next. The two halves mirror each other, and the same joke gets told from both sides.
Runners are about reflexes and quick restarts, while idle games are about patience and slow growth. Having both lets you pick how active to be. After a tense run you can switch to the village and let the numbers climb, and when that gets slow, a quick run gives your hands something to do.
Tips for Tofu Tales
- Use the runner when you want action and the idle mode when you want to relax.
- Try all three runner stages. They change the look of the run.
- Do not stay on one mode too long. They're meant to alternate.
- Check your village between runs to see how it's growing.
- Keep sessions short and come back often.
