About PICOHOT

PICOHOT is an 8-bit homage to SUPERHOT, built on the PICO-8. The rule is the same as the original: time moves only when you move. That turns a first-person shooter into a puzzle.

Stand still and the world stands still too. You can study a room, plan a path and then act in one clean burst. The whole game was designed to fit the idea of a full game on a floppy disk.

You can play PICOHOT online for free in your browser. A session runs about a half-hour.

How to Play PICOHOT

  • Move and the world moves.
  • Stand still to study the room.
  • Plan a few steps, then shoot.
  • Restart when a plan fails.

What to Expect in PICOHOT

PICOHOT borrows the stop-and-think rhythm that made its inspiration famous. Because time slows when you stop, you can afford to be careful, and the best moments come from reading a room and acting in one smooth burst.

The retro look is deliberate. PICO-8 limits the screen and the colors, so the game uses blunt shapes and strong contrast. It's small and sharp.

If you've played SUPERHOT, the idea feels familiar at once. If not, the rule is easy to learn: you decide when the world moves, so every step is a choice. It fits a short, focused sitting.

Tips for PICOHOT

  • Pause your movement to think. Standing still costs you nothing.
  • Plan a few steps before you move toward a threat.
  • Look at how enemies are placed, then pick a route that avoids their lines.
  • Restart quickly after a mistake and use what you learned.
  • Use fullscreen if your browser allows it.

Who Made PICOHOT

PICOHOT was made by tarkovsky, PirxOS, Warjoy Heir and released on itch.io. Made with PICO-8 by tarkovsky, PirxOS and Warjoy Heir, three members of the SUPERHOT team. FunClicker embeds the creator's own version so you can play it here without downloading anything. We did not make the game, and the credit for its design, code, and art belongs to its creator. You can find the original on the PICOHOT page on itch.io.

FAQ

Is PICOHOT free?

Yes. Play PICOHOT as often as you like at no cost.

How do you play PICOHOT?

Click inside the game window first, then try the keyboard and mouse. The core rule is that time moves only when you move. Stand still to plan, then move and shoot in short bursts, and use the pauses to read the whole room.

What is PICOHOT?

PICOHOT is an 8-bit homage to SUPERHOT, made on PICO-8 by three people from the SUPERHOT team. It's a first-person shooter built on the idea that time moves only when you move, squeezed into a tiny retro package.

Who made PICOHOT?

That's tarkovsky. PICOHOT came out on itch.io, and we link back to it from this page.

Is PICOHOT the same as SUPERHOT?

No. PICOHOT is a small PICO-8 homage, not the original game. It takes the idea that time moves only when you move and fits it into a retro, 8-bit package with a floppy-disk-sized scope.

Can I play PICOHOT on a Chromebook or phone?

A Chromebook or laptop with a keyboard and mouse is the safest choice, since a precise shooter is easier to control with them than with taps. A phone may not give you the control you need, so use a computer if you can.

Is PICOHOT unblocked at school?

If your school's filter allows FunClicker, PICOHOT unblocked runs right in the tab. Filters differ from one network to the next, so it's worth a quick try.

How long is PICOHOT?

A session lasts about a half-hour. PICOHOT was conceived as a game small enough to fit on a floppy disk, so expect a compact game and not a long campaign. That tight scope is part of the appeal.
