About Processor Tycoon

Processor Tycoon is a business simulation about starting your own hardware company during the rise of the semiconductor industry. The calendar starts in 1975 and runs to 2030, so you have decades of change to survive, and you compete with other companies the whole way.

Day to day, you develop CPUs, research new technologies and expand your factories. Production, contracts and deals between companies, including outsourcing production and licensing, are part of the game. It all happens inside DoorOS, a parody operating system where you run things as the founder.

You can play Processor Tycoon online in a browser tab. A session can last a few hours, so it's more a long afternoon than a quick break.

How to Play Processor Tycoon

  • Click inside the game window first, then use the mouse to find your way around DoorOS.
  • Develop a CPU and decide what it should offer buyers.
  • Research new technologies so later chips can improve.
  • Put your designs into production and expand your factories.
  • Take on contracts, and consider outsourcing production or licensing designs with other companies.
  • Keep an eye on the year and plan for the market ahead.

What to Expect in Processor Tycoon

Expect a slow, thoughtful management game. The span is more than fifty years of in-game time, which suits long sessions where decisions about research and production pay off slowly. If you've ever enjoyed a tycoon game, the loop of investing now to earn later will feel familiar.

The DoorOS desktop is a fun framing. Your interface doubles as part of the joke, which gives the game a character of its own while you work through the menus a founder might use.

It's still in development, so you'll see a game that's growing, with more content and features on the way. Processor Tycoon free in the browser is a good pick if you like business sims and computer history, and do not mind a project that's still taking shape.

Tips for Processor Tycoon

  • Research early. New technology compounds over the decades.
  • Do not overbuild your factories before you have contracts to fill them.
  • Look at contracts, outsourcing and licensing as ways to earn without building everything yourself.
  • Pay attention to the year. Timing matters in a game that spans 55 years.
  • Give yourself a few hours. It's a slow burn by design.
