About Noodlebonks

Noodlebonks is a one or two player pixel-art game about nudibranchs, a kind of sea slug. Your character cannot walk or run. It can only wiggle, and that awkward way of moving is the heart of the game.

Each Noodlebonk has stingers on its back. If yours touches another Noodlebonk, it pops them into a cloud of bubbles. The aim is to touch your opponent with your own stingers without getting stung yourself. The movement is deliberately silly, which is part of the charm.

You can play Noodlebonks online in a browser tab with nothing to install, and Noodlebonks free is how it runs here. It's a fighting game for one or two players, and it plays best against a friend.

How to Play Noodlebonks

  • Use the arrow keys and Space or Enter to move through the menu.
  • Choose one player or two players.
  • Click inside the game window first, then try the keyboard to wiggle your Noodlebonk.
  • Get your back, with its stingers, against your opponent.
  • Avoid being touched by theirs, because a sting pops you into bubbles.

What to Expect in Noodlebonks

It's a duel where nobody has much control. Every move is a wiggle or a hop, so sneaking up on someone is half the fun. A match is mostly about angles, timing and getting your back to the right place.

The pixel art is cute, and the idea is simple enough to explain in one sentence. It's silent for now, so the only noise in a two-player game comes from the people playing. If you like short, silly duels where everyone fails in entertaining ways, this one delivers.

Tips for Noodlebonks

  • Keep your back toward your opponent. The stingers are the only weapon you have.
  • Think before you chase. You can only wiggle, so cutting off their path beats following.
  • Back away from an opponent who is lined up on you, since one touch pops you.
  • Play against a friend if you can. It's a better game with two.
  • Expect to lose your first few rounds. The movement takes practice.

FAQ

Is Noodlebonks free?

It's free. Noodlebonks loads right here in your browser, so there's nothing to download.

How do you play Noodlebonks?

In the menu, use the arrow keys and Space or Enter. In a match, wiggle your Noodlebonk around and try to land your back-mounted stingers on your opponent. Click inside the game window first so it takes your keys.

What is a Noodlebonk?

A Noodlebonk is a nudibranch, a kind of sea slug. In the game they can only wiggle to move, and they carry poisonous stingers on their backs that pop other Noodlebonks into clouds of bubbles. Avoiding those stingers is the whole challenge.

Can I play Noodlebonks with two players?

Yes. The game supports one or two players, and choosing a mode is part of the menu. Playing against a friend is the natural way to enjoy a duel like this, though you can also play on your own.

Who made Noodlebonks?

That's auranym. Noodlebonks came out on itch.io, and we link back to it from this page.

Can I play Noodlebonks on a Chromebook or phone?

A keyboard is the best fit, since the menu uses the arrow keys and Space or Enter. A laptop or Chromebook works well. A phone has no touch controls here, so it's a poor choice.

Does Noodlebonks have sound?

Not yet. The game is silent for now, so a two-player match is quiet apart from the people playing.
