About LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45)

LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45) is a retro role-playing game where you place the buildings and lands your hero meets along the way. It has a 16-bit pixel look and a chiptune soundtrack.

The hero's job is to beat the Lich and bring back the world it stole. Along the way you put down buildings and new lands on the adventure path, collect and equip loot to get stronger, and fill a building scale that lets you summon the Lich for the final fight.

A run takes about half an hour, and the whole game is played with the mouse. You can play LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45) online here, and it's LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45) free to play. This is the version made after the Ludum Dare 45 jam.

How to Play LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45)

  • Use the left mouse button for your main actions.
  • Place buildings and new lands along the hero's path.
  • Collect loot and equip it so the hero gets stronger.
  • Fill the building scale to summon the Lich, then fight it in the last battle.
  • Press Esc for the menu.
  • Press the right mouse button or Space to pause.

What to Expect in LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45)

It mixes role-playing with a build-your-own-world feel. You do not only guide the hero. You shape the surroundings by placing buildings and lands, and that's the unusual part of the design.

The finish line is the fight with the Lich, and the building scale decides when you can summon it, so you pick the moment the last battle starts. That puts some timing and preparation into a game that's simple to operate.

This is the post-jam release, a compact take on the idea with about half an hour of play. A full version of the game is in the works. The 16-bit art and chiptune sound give it the look of an older console role-playing game, with a hero, a villain and a world to put right.

Tips for LooPatHerO (post LudumDare 45)

  • Place buildings and lands with the final fight in mind, not only for loot.
  • Equip new loot as soon as you find it.
  • Use pause to think about your next placement.
  • Fill the building scale steadily, because the Lich fight depends on it.
  • Open the menu with Esc if you need to check your options.
