About Rocket Scale

Rocket Scale is a first-person rocket jump platformer with an unusual problem: you start at the foot of a parkour course with no way to jump, and no explanation. Your only way up is a very safe rocket launcher.

So the launcher does the jumping. Fire it at the right spot and the blast carries you upward. Hold the fire button to charge a shot, and the longer you hold, the more power it has. Climb the course one blast at a time, and use checkpoints to save your place.

It was made for the GMTK game jam 2024. You can play Rocket Scale online in a tab with nothing to install, and Rocket Scale free covers the full climb. It's a parkour-flavored puzzle in first person, and it rewards careful aim.

How to Play Rocket Scale

  • Move with W, A, S and D.
  • Left-click to fire the rocket launcher.
  • Hold the left mouse button to charge a shot for more power.
  • Press R to respawn at your last checkpoint.
  • Press Esc to pause.

What to Expect in Rocket Scale

The twist is a good one. Take away the jump button, hand over a rocket launcher, and the whole game becomes about where you aim. Each section of the course is a small puzzle: where do you need to land, and how hard do you have to blast to get there.

Charging gives you control over distance, so the same wall can be a short hop or a big launch. It's precise, a little dangerous and funny in its own way, and the checkpoints keep a fall from costing too much. Expect some falls.

Tips for Rocket Scale

  • Charge a small shot for short hops and hold longer for big launches.
  • Fire at the ground or a wall beside you, not at a distant target.
  • Press R to respawn at the checkpoint when a jump goes wrong.
  • Take a moment to look at the next ledge before you fire.
  • Do not rush a section. Careful aim beats speed.

FAQ

Is Rocket Scale free?

Yes, and there's no sign-up step either. Rocket Scale runs in this tab.

How do you play Rocket Scale?

Move with WASD, left-click to fire the rocket, and hold left-click to charge the shot. R respawns you at the last checkpoint and Esc pauses. Click inside the game window first so it takes your input.

What is the goal in Rocket Scale?

Climb the parkour course from the bottom to the top using your rocket launcher, since it's your only way up. Charge your shots, aim carefully and use checkpoints when a launch goes wrong.

Why can you not jump in Rocket Scale?

That's the idea of the game. You cannot jump, so the rocket launcher takes over the job. Every climb is a rocket blast, and the course is built to make you think about where to aim.

Who made Rocket Scale?

That's Rye. Rocket Scale came out on itch.io, and we link back to it from this page.

Can I play Rocket Scale on a Chromebook or phone?

A keyboard and mouse are needed, since you move with WASD and aim and fire with the mouse. A laptop or Chromebook with both works well. A phone is a poor fit because there are no touch controls.

Is Rocket Scale unblocked at school?

It might be. Rocket Scale unblocked needs only a browser tab, and whether that tab opens is up to your school's filter.

How does charging work in Rocket Scale?

Hold the left mouse button to charge a shot. The longer you hold, the more powerful the rocket is, which lets you pick between a small hop and a big launch.
